In Neapolitan dialect. Introduced in hotel Quisisana in Castellammare di Stabia at the inauguration of the incline railway to the top of the Vesuvius (Funiculare del Vesuvio). This extra musical support helped convince tourists to risk the ride, since many preferred the safer back of a donkey or even walking. Meanwhile the city of Ercolano (Herculaneum) considers to re-install the original funiculare.
Covers:
Richard Strauss [melody in Neapolisches Volksleben, the allegro from his orchestral suite Aus Italien; he wrongly assumed it was a traditional]
Ferrucio Giannini [oldest recording]
Dumont Minstrels [on Berliner]
Brave Combo [with Cathy Finch and Marcy Marxer]
Bennie Jolink & Jan Wilm Tolkamp [as Jagen In 't Bos]
