According to Donnie Elbert, Sylvia Robinson, writer of Shame Shame Shame, stole his song in '74, while he was still a recording artist for All Platinum. But more likely, his version as You're Gonna Cry When I'm Gone was done afterwards. Oddly enough, in need of a quick follow-up to their smash hit, Shirley & C° copied some of Elbert's lyrics for Cry, Cry, Cry. Whatever happened, the basic groove is all George McCrae's Rock Your Baby, the summer hit of '74. Even Donnie Elbert admits. Besides, John Lennon was the first to capture that same groove for Whatever Gets You Thru The Night. It's all right. It's all right.
