Artist: Young-Holt Unlimited
Author: Eugene Record/Sonny Sanders
Label: Brunswick
Year: 1968
Instrumental soul group from Chicago with Eldee Young and Isaac Holt, two thirds of the Ramsey Lewis Trio.
Covers:
Barbara Acklin [also for Brunswick as Am I The Same Girl with Barbara's voice instead of the original piano; the rest is identical]
Dusty Springfield [idem]
Sound Dimension [reggae version; prod.: Coxsone Dodd]
Enoch Light & The Brass Menagerie [instrumental]
George Benson [as Soulful Strut]
Swing Out Sister [as Am I The Same Girl]
For Real [as Good Morning Sunshine]
Joss Stone [as Don't Cha Wanna Ride]
Coauthor Eugene Record also led the Chi-Lites. Two of their originals, Too Good To Be Forgotten and Have You Seen Her, Eugene cowrote with Barbara Acklin (see there). In fact Barbara's Am I The Same Girl came out before Soulful Strut. She also cut it for Brunswick, but that company preferred the instrumental version by Young-Holt Unlimited. You can't blame them: Soulful Strut became a millionseller.
