Artist: J.J. Cale
Author: J.J. Cale
Label: Liberty
Year: 1966
B-side of Slow Motion. (John) Cale had followed his friend Leon Russell from Tulsa to California. Rare up-tempo version where his friend Carl Radle received a copy from. As Delaney & Bonnie's bassist and soon a member of Derek & The Dominos, Carl showed Clapton the single. Clapton's more laidback hit approach inspired J.J. to adopt it as his trademark. The Liberty original was reissued on Capitol lp compilation You Heard It Here First, cradled with originals as we like 'em.
Covers:
Eric Clapton [hit US; later also covered Cale's Cocaine successfully]
J.J. Cale [on debut solo album Naturally; as laidback as Clapton's]
Pioneers [as Let It All Hang Out]
Cornelis Vreeswijk [as Droskblues]
Joël Daydé [as Après minuit]
Eddy Mitchell [idem]
Marshall Chapman [one of the songs she can't do without]
Clapton's cover landed J.J. a recording contract for a first solo album with Audie Ashworth producing in Bradley's Barn in Mount Juliet, TN.
