His first n°1 R&B, not produced by Dave Bartholomew (testing the Imperial direction's eagerness to raise his wage) but with Alvin Young. After one week, Goin' Home was relayed by another New Orleans n°1 R&B: Lloyd Price's Lawdy Miss Clawdy, produced by Dave Bartholomew for Specialty. While it occupied the top spot for a consecutive eight weeks, Imperial approached Bartholomew in a way he couldn't refuse to come back and even stay with the company for as long as he wished.
