Written by New Orleans piano professor Tony Jackson in 1912. He was the regular entertainer at Countess Willie V. Piazza's (317 Basin St), the Storyville bordello with the most beautiful octoroons in the whole South. Jelly Roll Morton was another regular. Gay inspired original lyrics. Tony was never recorded.
