(John Folkes)
(o):Folkes Brothers (1960)label: Wild Bells
John, Meko & Junior with the Rasta Nyahbinghi drummers of Count Ossie's Afro Combo (see Grounation). Oldest backbeat recording in Jamaica during Prince Buster's first session in Kingston's RJR studio. In UK on Blue Beat ('61).
(c):Count Ossie & The Mystic Revelation Of Rastafari (1970) , Junior Byles (1976) [rocksteady version], Shaggy (1992) [n°1 UK with underlying theme taken from Peter Gunn],

Based on a Caribbian folk melody. Royalties on Shaggy's hit version ended up with John Folkes instead of producer Prince Buster. In a Mojo interview (Sept. '97) Buster states: "If Folkes wrote that, then let him show me one other thing he's written that even looks like a song".
