GOOD TIME CHARLIE'S GOT THE BLUES

(Danny O'Keefe)
(o):Danny O'Keefe (1967)label: Piccadilly/First American
Singer-songwriter from Washington state (see also: The Road). Recorded it locally for Jerry Denton (Jerden label), who didn't release it but claimed the credits. Luckily for Danny his contract was bought by Atlantic boss Ahmed Ertegun, who returned him half of the publishing, without obligation (a normal policy there). That's when Danny recorded his Goodtime Charlie in good conditions for Cotillion, produced by Ahmed. One year later recut for Signpost under supervision of Arif Mardin. When that version hitted, Jerry Dennon released his demo version on the semi bootleg The Seattle Tapes (on First American).
