From Berg en Terblijt (NL Limburg), recorded in Cadier en Keer. Always sang while milking, never while houling water for that was too heavy. On box set Onder De Groene Linde, a compilation of Ate Doornbosch's VARA radio series.

Very familiar tune, at least for someone coming from Boom (Rupel region). People from Boom are nicknamed Hondenfretters (Dog Eaters), for a dog abattoir operating from there during WW I and providing the whole region (including Antwerp) of a minimum amount of meat since the Germans confiscated all cattle. Hondenfretter is an honorable title that goes with a song, long as any local can remember: Onnefretterslied, AKA De Boomse Brabançonne. It's not mentioned in Ate Doornbosch's magnus opus, although he's well aware of the cross pollination between Flemish and Dutch folk repertoire. See also: 't Was Des Nachts Om Twalef Uren.
