| | About a prisoner in Columbus, GA, begging his loved one to leave him now that she's in love with someone else (same theme in earlier ballads like (My) Dear Companion and Leave Me If You Wish). Columbus was Tom Darby's hometown, who claimed to be the author and to be related with Riley Puckett of the Skillet Lickers. Jimmie Tarlton was the son of a sharecropper and the lapsteel forerunner of Cliff Carlisle. Their harmony singing was their hallmark, somewhere between blues and country to be. Neither survived the depression. |
